Alexandria - Cairo - Aswan high-speed railway project

The Egyptian National Authority for Tunnels signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Egyptian Orascom Construction and Arab Contractors, as well as Siemens Mobility of Germany, to design and build Egypt's first high-speed rail line at a cost of $23 billion.

The deal was signed on January 14 in Cairo in the presence of Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, and it was for a 1,000-kilometer high-speed network, with the first line stretching 460 kilometres from Ain Sukhna on the Gulf of Suez to the east, through the city. The administrative capital is near Cairo and on the Mediterranean coast at El Alamein, according to Orascom, and the first line, which is expected to cost over three billion dollars, will transport passengers and freight.
