Dry port in 6th of October City
The Egyptian government has approved the construction of Egypt's first dry port in 6th of October City, which is also scheduled to be the largest of its kind in Africa. The facility will be developed by a partnership that includes a division of German railway operator Deutsche Bahn, as well as other companies. El Sewedy Electric is a worldwide corporation that specialises in logistics and supply chain management.
The General Authority for Dry Lands and Ports of Egypt issued the contract for the facility's construction under the public-private partnership model, which is overseen by Egypt's Ministry of Finance's Public-Private Partnership Unit.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has contributed to the construction of a dry port in the city of 6 October worth US$176 million, which is expected to open in 2022 and have a capacity of 720 containers (20-foot equivalent units) each day, or around 250,000 TEUs per year.
