Bagamoy Port
President Jakaya Kikwete of Tanzania has put on hold plans to create what would have been East Africa's largest port in Bagamoyo, 75 kilometres north of Dar es Salaam, which were announced in October 2015 by President Jakaya Kikwete, with some villagers moving to clear the way for construction.
Tanzania, China Merchant Holdings International (CMHI), China's largest port operator, and the government of Oman signed a pact to build the port and create a special economic zone to transform the country into a regional business centre.
When President Magufuli entered office in November 2015, however, the project was put on hold as the government focused on expanding the ports of Dar es Salaam, Tanga, and Mtwara
